Fan Yan | Chronic Disease | Young Scientist Award

Fang Yan has pursued her entire academic journey in nursing at Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by a Master of Medicine Science in Nursing. She later completed a joint PhD program between Xiangya Nursing School and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University in Australia. Her academic training has equipped her with a strong foundation in nursing science, evidence-based practice, and international research collaboration.

Fang Yan is a registered nurse and currently serves as a lecturer at Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University. In addition to her teaching role, she contributes to academic and professional communities. She is an active member of the Chinese Nursing Association and holds a leadership role as the Vice Director and Secretary of the Nursing Education Committee in the Hunan Nursing Association. Her work spans both academic instruction and healthcare research, with a focus on improving nursing education and elderly care.

Fang Yan has received numerous recognitions for her academic excellence and research contributions. Her doctoral thesis was honored with the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence at Flinders University. She has also been the recipient of various scholarships, including multiple full scholarships and student excellence awards from Central South University. Additionally, her earlier academic years were marked by awards in public speaking and health education competitions, highlighting her communication skills and commitment to public health advocacy.

Fang Yan holds licensure as a registered nurse in China. Her competencies include strong English language skills, demonstrated by her performance in IELTS and national English proficiency tests. She also possesses advanced computer skills, evidenced by her certification in database software. These qualifications enhance her ability to contribute effectively to both research and clinical settings.

Fang Yan’s research interests lie in health care for older adults, including the management of geriatric syndromes such as urinary incontinence. She is also deeply engaged in studying the quality of life and psychosocial issues faced by AIDS-susceptible populations, including the spouses of men who have sex with men. Her work integrates multidisciplinary approaches to address health disparities, social stigma, and legal challenges within marginalized communities.
